WESTERN EUROPEAN PORCELAIN OF THE XVIII – XIX CENTURIES. IN THE COLLECTION OF THE MYKOLAIV REGIONAL ART MUSEUM NAMED AFTER V.V. VERESHCHAGIN

Abstract

The study of a wide range of issues in the field of art porcelain in contemporary art history shows that in order to solve analytical problems, it remains invariably important to study the works of individual collections with the subsequent determination of the geography of production, time of manufacture, style of decoration, features of forms, materials, manufacturing techniques and decoration. The collection of quantitative data simultaneously forms the basis for further research and makes it possible to create electronic data classification systems, which radically expands the possibilities of research generalizations of various aspects of porcelain art and attribution of products. The aim of the article is to analyze porcelain products of Western European manufactories and factories operating in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, based on the digital catalog of the Mykolaiv Regional Museum named after V.V. Vereshchagin in the context of cultural, historical and stylistic comparisons. The artistic porcelain from the museum’s collection allows us to trace a number of important points, including the stylistic topos of Western European tableware and small plastic, which penetrated the everyday life of different social strata of Ukraine through various cultural and historical paths. It has been established that thanks to intermuseum relations and private contacts, a collection of artistic porcelain by leading Western European manufacturers made in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries was formed. A comparative analysis of a number of samples has shown that they have analogues in other museum collections in Ukraine or are part of the same service. These facts show that further search for facts will reveal new important pages in the history of Western European and national museums.
