THE REFLECTION OF THE TRADITIONAL DNIPROPETROVSK ART SCHOOL IN THE LANDSCAPES OF HEORHII HEORHIIOVYCH CHERNIAVSKYI

Abstract

The article examines the work of Heorhii Heorhiiovych Cherniavskyi in the context of the landscape genre in the classical art of Ukraine in the second half of the 20th century. It emphasizes that his works are a typical example of the classical Dnipropetrovsk art school. The variety of subjects in his paintings is described along with their stylistic execution, artistic techniques, technical nuances, and compositional solutions. It is shown that his works exhibit traits of the Impressionist movement. The synthesis of the landscape genre with historical themes in his works is identified as an important component for preserving the historical, cultural, and socio-cultural heritage of the Dnipropetrovsk region. Research methods: exploratory – gathering evidence for the art-historical analysis of artworks and forming assertions; systematic – studying the artist's work and biography, and organizing the findings; analytical – comparing and identifying artistic traits inherent in the reviewed works, and determining the relevance of the topic; modeling – identifying influences and transformations of the classical art school, including technical and compositional principles; contextual – analyzing the cultural and socio-cultural context. Scientific novelty: this study is the first to describe the stylistic features of H. Cherniavskyi landscapes from an art-historical perspective. The similarity of the compositional solutions, subjects, and color schemes of his works with those of C. Monet has been investigated. Traits inherent in H. Cherniavskyi paintings that align with Impressionism have been proven. Conclusions: This study revealed the features of the Dnipropetrovsk school of painting in the works of H. Cherniavskyi. The artist preserved the traditions of this classical school by reproducing the landscape motifs of the Dnipropetrovsk region using appropriate painting techniques. The analysis of his artistic style identified a symbiosis of color palette, tonality, and compositional solutions. This expanded the technical toolkit for the master to depict contemporary accents within the framework of classical painting. It is important to note that H. Cherniavskyi integrated historical and cultural features of the Dnipropetrovsk region into his works, making them valuable historical artifacts. One of the artist's periods is characterized by the combination of landscape and historical genres, highlighting a unique phenomenon that signifies a significant contribution to genre art. His work remains relevant and important for contemporary art history due to its innovative approach in reflecting the classical values and traditions of the Dnipropetrovsk art school.
