Developing a specific program for the conservation of artworks requires the restorers to justify using particular methods and materials planned for use. A complex of preliminary conservation studies shall be performed due to this. This article provides information on the example of the practical conduct of preliminary conservation studies of the state of preservation of wooden furniture, as well as a mural painting by T. Popel from room 205 of the former Regional Court or Palace of Justice building, which is now the 19th building of the Lviv Polytechnic National University. The study was carried out using the methods of historical analysis of the landmark and its artistic characteristics. It includes a detailed description of the practical invasive and non-invasive measures aimed at the professional assessment of the state of preservation of the room's interior components. Non-invasive research methods included a real-time visual examination of the interior components, including under the influence of ultraviolet light and side light of the visible spectrum. Besides that, cartograms and scanning of room walls and ceiling were compiled. The use of invasive research methods made it possible to assess the physical properties and microscopic structure of the samples previously obtained from this room. The list of materials used in the research process i.e., solvents, materials, and tools is provided. Preliminary programs for the conservation of the wooden decoration and mural paintings of the room, as well as recommendations for their maintenance and preservation, were developed based on the results of previous conservation studies. Using the suggested preservation and conservation programs, it is possible to achieve a high degree of reproduction of the aesthetic and practical qualities of the landmark while observing the requirement for the reversal of all processes that the object undergoes during conservation. The practical necessity of developing interdisciplinary connections and academic cooperation in solving related issues of preservation and conservation in interaction with precise branches of science was outlined in addition to presenting the results of the conducted research.
