The purpose of the work is to highlight the forms and characteristic features of the creation of national clothing of Moldova as a part of the general Romanian culture from its original sources to modern production, as a manifestation of a significant part of the national culture; to show the unity and vitality of folk art embodied in original forms, ancient methods and established style. Methodology research is based on the principles of historicism, objectivity and a comprehensive approach. The work uses the historical-genetic method, which indicates the historical origin of the national costume and its continuity in the existence of subsequent generations in the long-term dimension of time, their desire to preserve national original sources. The sociological survey method and the general scientific method of information systematization made it possible to reveal the public’s attention to national clothing as a manifestation of national culture. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the fact that for the first time, on the basis of a sociological study conducted in the central region of the Republic of Moldova, regarding the understanding of craft art in modern society, the history of the methods of making folk costumes and other items of folk life is compared and the problems faced by traditional crafts are identified. As a result of the survey, the majority of respondents agreed that the attributes of traditional folk culture have a positive effect on the upbringing of the younger generation, contribute to the popularization of national values, and shape the ethno-cultural image of the people. Conclusions. Folk creativity, as well as its attribute – authentic clothing, are a source of moral education, national thinking and the formation of the ethno-cultural image of the people. It has been established that the process of making national clothes has deep historical roots, it has been preserved by generations of manufacturers; the most valuable are handmade products. Craftsmanship of folk costumes is one of the ways to preserve and promote national values. To popularize the traditional style of clothing, it is proposed to organize national craft exhibitions-competitions, festivals, creative workshops, discussions, open-air exhibitions, master classes; actively cover these events in mass media and social networks. First of all, such events should interest today’s youth to learn about their traditions, improve the skill of making national costumes, appreciate folk art, because it contains the soul and energy of the people.
