Abstract

The paper explores the creation and development of the coneptual art in Ukraine during specific conditions of the second half of the Twentieth Century. The set of sociopolitical, cultural, and artistic factors is summarized. The influence of the factors on the creation of the independent art centers among which Kyiv was the most important is noted. The analysis of pioneer of the Ukrainian unofficial art in Kyiv Vilen Barsky’ artistic vision development was performed. Discourse of the life path, artistic archives, and innovative contribution to the conceptual art in Ukraine is analyzed considering painter' rejection of the totalitarian Soviet regime in his creative space. Was found out that Kyiv painter Vilen Barsky almost completely refused the propaganda art ideological system of the social realism art. Artist has choosen his own way trying to reach symbols of modern visual language. The goal of the scholarly article is to research innovative way of the Kyiv painter Vilen Barsky in different time periods – from the beginning of the “Era of Stagnation” characterized by intensive ideological regulations till european period of his life. The scientific methods that were used in research are: analysis, generalization and systematic approach. Paper' scientific novelty is in rethinking of conceptual art' meaning in context of extending creative space of painter' unlimited identity realization during unique art piece creation. Conclusion: through the lens of life and work of Kyiv painter Vilen Barsky the research is revealing complex sociocultural processes that took place in "unofficial" dimension, parallel art reality of late soviet era. The way of Vilen Barsky' innovative principle creation impacted Ukrainian unofficial art development – on edge of fine art and literature.
