The article is dedicated to the study of stained glass windows in St. George's Church in Uzhhorod, which are an important element of sacred art in Transcarpathia from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. The author examines the historical context of the stained glass creation, their iconography, stylistic features, and symbolic meaning. The paper analyzes six stained glass compositions: two altar windows and two windows each in the left and right naves of the church. The research is based on a comprehensive approach that combines methods of art history, historical, and cultural analysis. The author reveals the content of religious subjects presented in the stained glass windows and their connection to local spiritual traditions. Special attention is paid to the technical aspects of stained glass execution, particularly the use of silver staining and glass etching techniques. The article highlights the role of individual donors in the creation of stained glass windows, allowing these artworks to be considered in the context of socio-cultural processes of the time. The author analyzes the compositional features of the stained glass, their color scheme, and symbolism, demonstrating a synthesis of various artistic traditions – from Gothic to Art Nouveau. The study reveals the multi-layered nature of the symbolic language of stained glass, which performs not only an aesthetic but also a didactic function in the sacred space of the church. The author emphasizes the high level of craftsmanship in the execution of the stained glass, especially in the use of complex painting and glass processing techniques. In conclusion, the author emphasizes the significant artistic value and important cultural and historical significance of the stained glass windows in St. George's Church. They are regarded as a unique source for studying the sacred art of Transcarpathia and an important component of the region's cultural heritage, deserving further detailed research and preservation.
