The purpose of the article is to outline the trends that already characterize the design of the 21st century and what expressive and functional perspectives await us at the time of the rapid rise of technical innovations. The dying of ideas, their decline, where is our society going? Society has always been interested in these questions. You can single out the main trends that are already being followed in design and art by tracking the main historical milestones of today. Cities educate citizens through the use of certain design elements. The city innovates more actively, while rural culture is more focused on preserving traditions. The more capital, the faster technological innovation. Modern art trends are more concentrated in the urban environment. The future is about reconciliation, tolerance. It is the case of urban cultural institutions to develop ideological templates for the dissemination and assimilation of state values through artistic and design forms. The issue of globalization and internationalization of human cultures and sciences is extensive and has been discussed by philosophers since XX century, but nowadays it gets a new shade through the prism of virtual reality. In the age of artificial intelligence, robotics, informatics and technological communications, we increasingly appreciate crafts, empathy for things that have layers of time. Globalization and internationalization force designers and art to invent a cross-cultural language that can be read at different social, religious, and professional levels. One of the main trends in art and ways to understand this empathy. New expressive means of art create artistic and aesthetic objects that often do not have a clear corresponding idea. Functional perspectives in design indicate the need to return to humane values, to extend the age of old things, because with the rapid development of technology, a person loses a sense of security, confidence, and motivation.
